5 Ways to Celebrate Graduating Seniors

We are all missing out on sports, vacations, and more right now while our lives have been put on pause by the coronavirus pandemic, but my heart really hurts for graduating seniors. I have such happy memories of my senior year; it was filled with fun activities with my friends and celebrations of accomplishments that led us into exciting new chapters of our lives. I’m saddened for 2020 seniors who are missing out on these experiences leading up to graduation (and perhaps the graduation ceremony itself), so I wanted to share some ideas to help you celebrate a graduating senior in your life.

(1) Collect video messages from grandparents, extended family, friends, teachers, coaches and anyone else who has played a special role in your graduate's life. Next, string them together into a little movie. I mentioned this in my last article, but here it is again – check out this quick tutorial on how to put your videos together into a movie reel by fellow photo organizer Miss Freddy. What a special gift this could be to your graduate as it will be something he/she can keep forever!

(2) Another great slideshow idea is to collect 3-5 favorite photos of your graduate from each year of their life and create a video montage of their life leading up to graduation.

(3) Create a collage with 20-30 of your favorite photos of your special graduate in the shape of “2020.” Below is an example of a photo collage I created back in 2012 for my family; you could easily put the graduate’s name and the name of the high school or college underneath the photos. Need help? We’d be happy to put a collage together for you!

(4) If you want to include more photos, choose 10 from each year and create a photo book for your special graduate. Try Printique or Forever for user-friendly photo book interfaces, clean designs, and beautiful print options.

(5) Do a photoshoot with your graduate. You don’t have to be a professional photographer and your senior doesn't have to be dressed in cap and gown; you can still take treasured photos of your grown-up kid in the backyard, on the front stoop, or even in their room. Whether we like it or not, this is the world we live in (cue '80s song Land of Confusion by Genesis ) and you’ll actually be capturing a piece of history by getting some not-so-typical graduation photos. Click here for some great tips for do-it-yourself senior portraits.
